The Beginning

Started in 1987 by Craig and Mary Jean Riddle from the back office of Econo Wash Coin Laundry, the company began with the idea of being the best source of commercial laundry and dry cleaning equipment--to provide their customers with a reliable partner that could be counted on for fair and honest treatment--a true ally for all their business needs: hence Ally Equipment Company.

Craig had spent the previous seventeen years selling, installing and servicing laundry and dry cleaning equipment for a Salt Lake City based supplier. While there, Craig earned his reputation as an expert in steam systems (including those used in commercial restaurants) as well as all facets of laundry and dry cleaning. Together, Craig and Mary Jean had renovated and owned several coin laundries including Econo Wash on State Street in Murray, Utah.

1990s
A.E.C. quickly became a sales leader for Miraclean, Wascomat and Unipress in Utah and Idaho. Rapid growth in 1989 saw John Allen join the company in July of that year. John brought a wealth of service experience and mechanical talent to A.E.C. providing a much needed partner to the growing company.

Craig, John, and crew spent the ‘90s becoming the source along the Wasatch Front for expert advice, essential service and sales. In 1992, they became the distributor for Columbia Dry Cleaning Machines and earned sales awards in 1993, 1995, 1998, as well as Wascomat sales awards in 1992 and 1998. All this growth demanded a new base of operations.

2000s
Craig and Mary Jean bought the land behind Econo Wash and in 1999 built Riddle Plaza that now houses Ally Equipment. Now able to stretch out in their new digs, the sales records continued to pile up in 2000, 2002, and 2006 all the while continuing to “service what we sell” from Boise to St. George and from Rock Springs to Elko.

Then in their 20th year, 2007, A.E.C. added Gregg Townsend to the team to expand their service offering in parts. Gregg had spent the previous 28 years at Kent Thomas Inc. focusing on the parts end of the industry as a specialist in Ajax Presses. In June of the same year, A.E.C. purchased the assets of Kent Thomas, Inc. and continues to provide quality parts, troubleshooting and finishing advice for Ajax Press owners across the globe.

2010 and beyond
After 24 years, our collective goal remains the same as from that humble back office in Econo Wash; to be your best source for expertise that will ensure your success whether you run a dry cleaner, professional laundry, coin laundry, tailor service, or institutional laundry.
